About
French American tavern in the Loop with a year-round covered pergola and a reported made-to-order canine menu. Closed Saturdays and Sundays.
Amenities
A French American tavern on Van Buren at the southern edge of the Loop, over two floors, with what its own site calls a year-round covered outdoor pergola — the rare downtown patio that is not purely a July proposition.
The dog menu. Choose Chicago, the city's tourism bureau, says Taureaux "pulls out all the stops for guests with canine companions": water in custom dog bowls and a special canine menu made to order, naming hamburger patties and scrambled eggs. Time Out Chicago reports the same menu — scrambled eggs and steak bites — and the water bowl. Taureaux's own website says nothing about dogs, so both the menu and the bowls are reported here rather than quoted.
Read the hours before you walk down there. This is a downtown lunch-and-after-work room, and it is closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Monday to Friday the bar runs 11am to 9pm and the kitchen closes at 8:30pm. A weekend dog walk through the Loop will find the doors shut.
It is the second Going Out listing in the Loop proper, after The Northman's cider garden on the Riverwalk about a mile north.
Dog menus against the city code. Chicago's dog-friendly-area ordinance permits water in a designated dog area but not food. The full rules are on the Patios and Restaurants page.
