Lakeview has the answer to the question every Chicago dog owner asks in November: where can I still go for a drink with my dog? One bar here says, on its own site, that dogs are welcome inside — and its beer garden is enclosed and heated in winter.
Where you can sit down
Cody's Public House — 1658 W Barry. Its own site: "Always Dog Friendly, Inside and Out!" — and the beer garden is, in its words, "super dog friendly as well." The beer garden takes up to 100 people, has 16 beers on tap, outdoor dart boards and TVs, and is enclosed and heated in winter. It has hosted dog birthday parties, and do312 reports a "Best Buds" craft beer for dogs that is not on the bar's own pages. Open from noon on weekdays and 10am at weekends, late every night.
Why a bar can let dogs inside when no restaurant can is a question of licence, not goodwill — it is explained in Why a Chicago Bar Can Let Your Dog Inside and No Restaurant Can. This directory has not checked which licences Cody's holds; it records what the bar says about its own door. Filter by Dogs Inside for the current list of venues that say the same.
Uncommon Ground — 3800 N Clark, a few blocks north of Wrigley Field, home to Greenstar Brewing. Its dog welcome is reported by do312's patio guide, not published — its own site says nothing about dogs and does not describe outdoor seating. It is on winter hours now, closed Tuesdays. Ask before you sit down.
Off-leash: two runs at either end
Belmont Harbor Dog Friendly Area — Belmont and Lake Shore Drive, beside the harbor, and easy to fold into a Lakefront Trail walk.
Challenger Dog Friendly Area — 1100 W Irving Park, near Seminary, on the boundary with Uptown's Buena Park pocket.
Neither has a verified surface, fencing or exact entrance yet. Both need a Park District permit and tag for every dog, renewed each year — the Park District lists $10, Animal Care and Control $5, so confirm when you apply. Three dogs per person at most, no puppies under four months, no dogs in heat, no food inside the gates. The Dog Parks and Runs page has the rest.
Vet
VCA Blum Animal Hospital — 3219 N Clark. Dentistry, surgery, internal medicine, dermatology and ultrasound in house. Its posted hours — weekdays 7:30am to 6pm, Saturday 8am to 2pm, closed Sunday — are labelled temporary, so check before you go. It is not a 24-hour hospital; at night, see 24-hour emergency vets.
Daycare, boarding and grooming
PUPS Pet Club — Lakeview / Lincoln Park — 2811 N Lincoln. Grooming, daycare and boarding; boarding runs every day of the year. It has dedicated member parking, transport within a mapped local zone and booking through its app. Prices, vaccination rules and playgroup sizes are not published.
Sit Social — 3221 N Clark. Grooming, daycare and boarding for dogs 30 lbs and under only. Boarding is $125 a day. It advertises care on site around the clock but does not say how the overnight shift is staffed — worth asking, as the Boarding page explains.
Shops and supplies
Unabridged Bookstore — 3251 N Broadway. A signed Adopt-a-Pet guide from August 2024 says leashed dogs may come in and browse; the store's own site says nothing about dogs. Open 10am to 7pm every day.
PetSmart Wrigleyville — 3736 N Halsted, with a grooming salon that closes at 6pm. Petco Halsted — 3046 N Halsted, with grooming, training and a vaccination clinic (not a full hospital). Neither store page says whether your dog may come in with you.
Michele Taylor Photography — 1641 W Irving Park. Studio or outdoor sessions, with a $900 booking fee — $250 for the session and $650 toward prints and products — and the studio says most clients spend $1,800 or more. Photographers explains how pet-portrait pricing usually works.
Staying and living here
Hotel Zachary — 3630 N Clark, across the street from Wrigley Field. It allows up to two pets but publishes no fee, weight limit or house rules — ask before you book. On game nights the streets around it are very crowded.
Optima Lakeview — 3478 N Broadway. A rental building with a 2,000-square-foot heated dog park, a pet spa with grooming, an on-site veterinary clinic, and dog walking and pet sitting. It publishes no pet fees, pet rent, weight or breed rules, so ask for them in writing. See Buildings with Dog Amenities.
What is missing here
There is no trainer, rescue or café tagged Lakeview in this directory yet. Those are gaps in the research, not claims about the neighborhood.
