Veterinarians
General practice vets and neighborhood animal hospitals.
Finding a vet in Chicago
General-practice veterinarians and neighborhood animal hospitals across the city — the North Side, downtown, and south and west to Bridgeport, Pilsen, Hyde Park, South Shore and Beverly. Filter by neighborhood to find one near you.
What each listing tells you
Address, phone, hours and services, taken from the practice's own website, with the date we checked. Where a practice doesn't publish its hours, the listing says so rather than guessing.
Chains and independents are listed side by side. If you'd rather use an independent practice, filter by the Locally Owned tag.
Wellness plans are contracts, not insurance. Some practices sell monthly plans that bundle routine care — Banfield's Optimum Wellness Plan, for example, is a 12-month prepaid contract. Read the terms before signing.
Lower-cost care: The Anti-Cruelty Society in River North runs a low-cost veterinary clinic that is open to the public, not just to adopters.
After hours
Most practices here close in the evening and at weekends, and several that advertise "urgent care" mean during opening hours only. If it's the middle of the night, go straight to Chicago's 24-hour emergency vets.
