About

Uptown's lakefront off-leash area on Marine Drive, known to regulars simply as Puptown.

Puptown is the Dog Friendly Area on Marine Drive in Uptown, near the lakefront at Lawrence. It is one of the few DFAs the city lists under its nickname rather than its park name, which tells you how established the community around it is.

Off-leash inside the gates only — dogs must be leashed before entering and on the way out.

Good to Know
Chicago Park District DFA — a permit and tag are required for every dog, renewed annually. Fee note: the Park District lists $10 per dog per year, the city's Animal Care and Control FAQ lists $5 — confirm before you go. Rules: three dogs per person max, no puppies under four months, no dogs in heat, no food inside the gates. Surface and fencing not yet verified. Details checked 2026-09-22.
