About
Appointment-only Rogers Park salon on Jarvis that does hand-stripping — a hand-finished technique most Chicago groomers no longer offer.
Rogers Bark Pet Salon
A small, appointment-only grooming salon at 1447 W Jarvis Ave in Rogers Park, a few steps from the Jarvis Red Line station.
Hours
- Tuesday–Saturday: by appointment only, opening at 7:00 AM
- Sunday and Monday: closed
The shop's own description is that it "typically closes when the last dog leaves" — so there is no fixed closing time. Book ahead; this is not a walk-in operation.
Hand-stripping is the standout. Most Chicago salons will only clipper a wire-coated dog, because hand-stripping is slow, labor-intensive work. Pulling the dead outer coat by hand instead of cutting it is what keeps the harsh texture and correct color on terriers, schnauzers, and wire-haired pointers — clippering a wire coat softens it and fades it, permanently. If you have a wire-coated breed, a groomer who actually does this is worth a trip across the city.
Other services: full professional grooming, nail trims, ear cleaning, teeth brushing, and nail trims for cats.
Pricing is not published. Hand-stripping in particular is priced by time and coat condition — ask for an estimate when you book.
Getting there: Jarvis Ave just west of Greenview, essentially at the Jarvis Red Line stop. One of the few good groomers in the city reachable without a car from the Far North Side.
