About
PAWS Chicago's low-cost spay and neuter clinic on 26th Street in Little Village, and the reason the city's shelter intake has fallen.
PAWS Chicago's surgical facility on 26th Street in Little Village — the Kocourek Medical Center, housing the Lurie Clinic, which does low-cost spay and neuter surgeries.
This is the least glamorous and arguably most consequential address in the directory. Everything else in the Rescues category deals with dogs that already need homes. A high-volume, low-cost spay/neuter clinic is the part of the system that reduces how many there are. PAWS has built its whole no-kill argument on it.
It is not a general-practice vet. PAWS lists spay/neuter surgeries as the service here. If you want vaccinations, a sick visit or dental work, this is the wrong door — and the two low-cost options already in this directory are worth knowing: The Anti-Cruelty Society runs a clinic open to the public in River North, and PAWS's own Pippen Fasseas Adoption Center in Lincoln Park handles adoptions rather than surgery.
Call before you plan anything. The number is 773-521-7729, which spells 773-521-SPAY. PAWS does not publish opening hours for this location on its contact page — only the address, the phone and the service — so the hours field here is blank rather than guessed, and low-cost surgery clinics commonly book out weeks ahead and run eligibility or income criteria. Ask about both on the call.
Where it is. 3516 W 26th Street is on Little Village's main commercial strip, west of California. It is a long way from PAWS's Lincoln Park adoption center, and the two are not interchangeable — do not turn up here expecting to meet a dog.
