The 606 (Bloomingdale Trail)

Free Wicker Park
Off-Leash Allowed No, leash required

About

An elevated 2.7-mile rail trail running from Wicker Park to Humboldt Park, with twelve access ramps along the way.

The 606 runs 2.7 miles along the old Bloomingdale rail line, between Ashland on the east and Ridgeway on the west. Because it is elevated and has no cross traffic, it is one of the few genuinely uninterrupted long walks on this side of the city.

There are twelve access points, roughly every quarter mile, and seventeen ramps for step-free access. Several parks sit along or beside the trail, including Walsh Park and Churchill Field — both of which have their own Dog Friendly Areas, so you can combine a walk with off-leash time.

Dogs are welcome but must be on a short leash. The Park District says so explicitly. The trail is narrow and shared with cyclists and runners, so a long lead is a genuine hazard here rather than a matter of etiquette.

Good to Know
Hours and the leash rule confirmed 2026-09-22 from the Chicago Park District's own page for the 606. The Park District's wording is to "keep your dog on a short leash" — this is a shared path with cyclists and runners, not a place for a retractable lead. Runs through Wicker Park, Bucktown, Logan Square and Humboldt Park; tagged Wicker Park for the eastern terminus and the full route listed under service areas. Walsh Park and Churchill Field Dog Friendly Areas are on or beside the trail. Not verified: water fountains, shade, or winter maintenance. Details checked 2026-09-22.
