The Spoke and Bird Pilsen

A coffee shop and sandwich counter on 18th Street, and the first dog-friendly place to sit down in Pilsen anywhere on this site — the neighborhood had a vet, Kindred, and nothing else.

It puts a dog item on its own menu. The Spoke and Bird's own site carries a Puppuccino — "housemade whipped cream, half a doggy biscuit" — under its own Dog Friendly heading. That matters, because almost nothing in the Going Out categories is the business speaking for itself rather than a guide reporting on it. do312's dog-friendly patio guide adds that the place "enthusiastically welcomes you and your pup."

One caveat worth stating. The Dog Friendly heading and the Puppuccino sit on the company's site rather than on this location's own page, and The Spoke and Bird has two Chicago stores. Nothing says the dog welcome differs between them, but nothing confirms it per location either, so a phone call before a first visit is sensible. The sibling store in the South Loop is listed separately here.

The hours are the thing to check. This location is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and shuts at 3pm on Monday, Thursday and Friday — earlier than almost any café on this site. Weekends are the long days, 9am to 5pm.

The patio is set under trees off 18th Street.

A note on the company's other "locations." Its site publishes fourteen pages under /location/ — Bronzeville, Bridgeport, Chinatown, University Village and more. Only this store and the South Loop one are shops; the rest are delivery and catering areas. If a search result suggests there is a Spoke and Bird in Bronzeville, there is not.

Corrected 2026-10-02: this listing first said it was the only listing of any kind in Pilsen. Kindred Animal Hospital has been listed here under Veterinarians since September.
