Choosing a doggy daycare in Chicago

Daycare marketing all sounds the same. What actually differs between facilities is rarely advertised, so these listings publish it wherever the daycare does — and name the question to ask where it doesn't.

The questions that matter

  • Are small and large dogs separated?
  • What is the staff-to-dog ratio, and the maximum number of dogs per group?
  • What vaccinations are required, and is there a temperament test or trial day?
  • Is it open at weekends? Not all are — several PUPS Pet Club locations (River North, Streeterville and Wicker Park) close daycare on Saturdays and Sundays, even though the brand is open seven days elsewhere.
  • What does a day cost, and are packages cheaper?

A facility that answers these on its own website is telling you something good about how it's run.

If your dog is reactive

Most daycares screen out reactive dogs. Filter by the Reactive Dog Friendly tag to find the ones built to take them.

Most daycares here also board overnight — see dog boarding in Chicago.
